Arriving from Paços de Ferreira for £850k in 2015, Jean-Michaël Seri has been one of the revelations of Ligue 1 over the past two campaigns.
Settling in nicely under Claude Puel before upping his game when Lucien Favre took over, the 25-year-old currently has six goal and nine assists in 29 league appearances to his name.
Of course, such performances haven’t gone unnoticed around Europe, with a lot of clubs interested in his services, including a handful from the Premier League.
A few days ago, RMC Sport explained both Everton and Leicester had been tracking his progress this season, and now another English side have been thrown into the mix for good measure: Southampton.
Now managed by his former manager, Claude Puel, the Saints are an obvious link for Seri, but with the player currently negotiating a new contract at Nice, it could be difficult to convince him to move to England just yet.
Furthermore, with a €40m release clause in his current deal with the Ligue 1 side (which, since they are technically illegal in France, we can only assume is a verbal agreement), and Favre unlikely to want one of his stars to leave, any deal could end up being an expensive on for Southampton if they want to try and bring the midfielder to St Mary’s.
Both Southampton and Leicester are said to have been in touch with Seri, but it seems nothing has come from it as of yet.
Definitely one to keep an eye on.
