It appears that Southampton are doing all they can to get a Premier League player this January, as they pursue Burnley’s Benson Manuel.
The news comes from Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri, who claims that the Saints are trying to ‘find an agreement’ with the Clarets for a transfer.
In fact, Southampton have made a ‘second improved offer’, which they have sent to Burnley on Tuesday.
They are helped by the fact the forward ‘wants to go’ to the south of England to continue the season in what would be a loan with an option to buy.
Despite being one of the stars of Burnley’s heroics in the Championship last season, the Belgium U21 international has found minutes very hard to come by following promotion to the Premier League.
He only has five appearances in all competitions under Vincent Kompany this season, which is why he is desperate to go to Southampton, who can clearly offer him more minutes than he is currently getting at Turf Moor.
The now 26-year-old had found the back of the net 14 times in 37 appearances last season, and also picked up five assists
