Arriving for £16m from Lille in France, Sofiane Boufal never managed to find consistency at Southampton, hindered by a few injuries.
Following the arrival of Mark Hughes, the Morocco international lost his spot in the first-team altogether after he managed to fall out with his manager.
Boufal then appeared on French TV revealing he wouldn’t be against leaving Southampton in order to start his career again, with Marseille one of the clubs he’d enjoy playing for.
However, despite reported interest, the Ligue 1 club never made a move, and the forward ended up going on loan to Celta Vigo in La Liga for the upcoming season.
Explaining to his new club’s fans that he felt this was the ideal opportunity for him and that Spanish football was more suited to his style of football, Boufal is going to have to wait before showing them what he can do.
That’s because the former Lille star has already managed to injure himself during Thursday’s training, spraining his ankle, as revealed on the Celta Vigo website.
How long Boufal will be out for isn’t revealed, as they are waiting to find that out, but it isn’t exactly the start he and the Spanish club will have wanted.
