Yesterday saw an interesting rumour emerge from Italy that Crystal Palace were trying to sign AS Roma’s Maxime Gonalons.

The defensive midfielder didn’t have the best first season with the Serie A side after his €5m move from Lyon last summer, and while he doesn’t particularly want to leave a Champions League club, he might have to if he isn’t guaranteed the game time he wants.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport and Il Messaggero on Thursday, another option has opened itself for the Frenchman, and that is a move to Everton.

Starting with the pink national newspaper, Roma have allegedly received two €9-10m offers for the 29-year-old and the only two teams mentioned are Crystal Palace and the Toffees.

Roma are said to be ‘ready to accept them’, as they’ll be close to doubling their money for a player who underperformed last season.

Down the player’s end, Gonalons is reported as ‘reflecting’ on the offers, as the wages offered are the same as what he’s currently on in Italy.

This means that should he move, he wouldn’t be doing so for the money, but more for the chance of getting more minutes on the pitch.

Over at Il Messaggero, there isn’t that much more detail, but they do confirm that two offers have landed on Monchi’s desk, and they are from Roy Hodgson’s and Marco Silva’s respective clubs.

We have a bit of a battle on our hands.
