The Portuguese league clash between Braga and Famalicão attracted a scout from Southampton on Sunday night.
There are two reasons why it got our attention. First because officials from English clubs rarely watch games which do not involve Benfica, Porto or Sporting.
And when clubs do go to Portugal to see these matches, it’s normally the likes of Manchester United or Everton, with the Saints occasionally being on the list.
That’s a reason to believe that Ralph Hasenhüttl’s side had someone to watch last night, although A Bola, which is the newspaper who reports their visit, doesn’t have any information on that.
Braga winger Galeno, who scored both of their goals, had a fantastic performance and was picked as the man of the match. He’s certainly one who may have got the scouts’ attention, along with Famalicão’s Pedro Gonçalves and Toni Martinez.
Famalicão had been on top of the table for a few fixtures, so perhaps that’s what attracted Southampton to watch them. It seems the northern side have run out of gas already, as they’ve dropped to third place after the latest results.
