Lucas Alario links with Tottenham Hotspur have increased over the weekend, and from his side the situation at least looks slightly positive.
The player’s agent Pedro Aldave explained over the weekend: “Today Alario is at River. There was only one proposal, from Genoa, and interest of Tottenham. If Tottenham pays the clause, Alario is going.”
The Alario clause is thought to be $15m, not a lot by Premier League standards for a talented 20 year old goalscorer, but still a big fee for River Plate and Argentine football generally.
Quizzed by Argentine newspaper Ole on the Tottenham reports, Alario said: “My representative did not say anything concrete on the subject and now I think of River, to get back on the pitch and give back everything this club gave me.”
All the rights things to say, but that wasn’t enough for Ole, who then asked if he could imagine playing there soon: “Like every player, I dream to play in Europe at some point in my career. For that first I have to make things right at River, to keep growing and learning.”
Unless he has access to an EU passport through heritage then Alario may face issues getting a work permit.
