The race for the Newcastle United midfielder Miken Merino is starting to get huge in Spain, where the local media is now publishing daily updates on the situation.
Earlier today, we had already covered claims from Marca which said Real Betis would be competing with Athletic Club Bilbao for the signing.
But now Basque outlet El Correo comes up with fresh claims, saying, according to a source close to the player, there are actually five La Liga clubs who are interested in the 21-year-old.
The outlet only named three of them, which would be Athletic, Real Sociedad and Real Betis.
Merino is said to have decided to leave Newcastle and it’s believed he already tried in the winter, but ended up convinced by Rafael Benitez to stay until the end of the season.
The problem is he doesn’t feel prominent at Newcastle United, according to the Spanish claims, and would be looking for that elsewhere.
El Correo claims Newcastle are currently demanding between €10-12m for the player. Athletic are pretty aware of the situation after their interest in the January market.
