After returning to the top flight this season, Watford have endured a difficult campaign so far, managing only four wins and a draw in 18 matches.

They are 17th in the table with 13 points, two points ahead of 18th placed Burnley, who have a game in hand.

Less than two months into the season, the Hornets sacked Xisco and appointed Claudio Ranieri as his successor. On November 2nd, Watford sporting director Cristiano Giaretta insisted he was not focusing on the winter market.

The Premier League side’s chief has now revealed his side could be active in January, to see if they can improve the current squad. TuttoMercatoWeb spoke to Giaretta, and he made these claims when asked if he is looking at the Italian market to bring in new faces to Vicarage Road this month.

“We look everywhere. We are doing something to improve ourselves. If there are opportunities we will see. In Italy as in France and everywhere, we are evaluating every possibility, even though we know we have a competitive squad,” he said.

Back in October, Watford took Nicolas Nkoulou and offered him a contract until the end of the season. The defender made three appearances in the league.

When asked whether the 31-year-old can go to Udinese, Giaretta said: “He started well, but in the third game he got hurt. He is still dealing with an injury, we are waiting for him.”
