Back on Saturday, Portuguese newspaper Record reported Manchester United fullback Alex Telles could be involved in a transfer back to the country.
It was claimed that in order to beat competition for the signing of Sporting youngster Nuno Mendes, the Red Devils offered the Brazilian plus an amount of money.
That was big news highlighted on Record’s front page, but now dismissed by another Portuguese newspaper, O Jogo, today. It has to do with Telles’ years playing for Porto.
The Northern outlet first writes that Sporting did not even consider signing the 28-year-old, even though the weekend’s story said his arrival had already been ‘approved’ by the Lisbon club.
O Jogo then takes two hints from social media which show that Telles would never sign for the Lions.
The player himself first posted on Instagram a happy birthday message to former left-back Branco, and wrote ‘once a Dragon, always a Dragon’, as he used to play for Porto as well.
In case that wasn’t enough, then Telles’ sister, who also manages his career, posted a message which went as “🇵🇹 = 💙. And only… #legacy”.
Since Record’s story says the deal had been proposed by an intermediary, perhaps Alex Telles was never consulted about the transfer, as it’s now been made clear he doesn’t fancy a move to his former rivals in Portugal.
