On Monday, Sport Witness explained that Jonathan Bamba’s current situation provides a possible opportunity for Newcastle United.
With Rafael Benitez being keen on the player during the summer transfer window, his Saint-Etienne contract situation is of interest, given that Bamba’s current deal expires at the end of the season.
Asking for a pay rise, to triple what he earns, Bamba had been ostracised by ASSE and told he wouldn’t play, but new talks have been scheduled and bridges rebuilt.
Of course, that doesn’t mean an agreement will be found, and the Newcastle target could be annoyed with the way ASSE have gone about things.
Le10 Sport have had an update on French claims, and Newcastle remain in the race. Benitez’s club are ‘sniffing a bargain’ and keen on a Bamba deal, along with Sevilla.
It’s not stated whether Newcastle would move for Bamba in January, for a reduced fee, or try for a free transfer next summer. Either way, the terms are going to be good.
