Clinton Njie’s loan move to Marseille hasn’t been a disaster, but it’s not been a runaway success either. Njie was initially hesitant to leave Tottenham for the French club and had to be persuaded, with Marseille officials flying to London to try and swing things.
Mauricio Pochettino was keen to sign Georges-Kevin N’Koudou from Marseille and whilst Njie wasn’t directly part of the same deal, it was something the French club were working towards.
Njie has been a bigger success at Marseille than N’Koudou has at Tottenham, with the 23 year old contributing 4 goals and one assist, and putting in some good performances alongside some average ones.
However, France’s Eurosport believe Njie’s days are numbered at Marseille, and that the French club won’t be buying him from Tottenham in the summer.
That would leave Njie returning to Spurs, with Pochettino then deciding what to do with the player. With a Tottenham contract until June 2020, Njie and Spurs have a long term commitment.
Pochettino may also have to make a decision on N’Koudou, who has played a grand total of 36 Premier League minutes for Tottenham since arriving from Marseille.
