Arsenal could find the signing of Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad snatched away from them as Real Madrid could force themselves back into the mix.
That’s according to AS, who report that Real Madrid still have a chance of inserting themselves as Arsenal are yet to finalise a deal or sign anything with the midfielder.
Reports in England and Spain have had Arsenal closing in on a deal for Zubimendi, with it reported at the beginning of the month that they were winning the race for him.
That was followed by Zubimendi seemingly saying his goodbyes, with it then explained he had four games left at Sociedad before moving to Arsenal.
AS, though, report that Real Madrid are still in the mix and the white flag that had previously been raised has now been dragged back down.
They report that as long as the move to Arsenal isn’t officially finalised, Real Madrid have a chance to turn things around.
While Arsenal have been planning and working on Zubimendi arriving for months, nothing has been signed as yet. With the arrival of Xabi Alonso as manager, Real Madrid could have a shot again. Alonso is a strong influence on the midfielder and they’re hoping that will help them at Madrid.
AS’s information is that Arsenal have not finalised anything and there’s still time for Alonso to intervene, if he and Real Madrid consider him the ideal man for their midfield.
This has happened before with Zubimendi, who was on the verge of joining Liverpool last summer before a sudden turnaround stopped that happening. Now the same could be about to happen to Arsenal, who still have matters pending but not finalised.
