Galatasaray continue the Turkish chase to take Mohamed Elneny away from Arsenal in the January transfer window.
There’s been repeat interest from the Super Lig in the midfielder, especially after he spent a period on loan with Besiktas. Multiple clubs have been linked, and it appears Galatasaray want to get ahead of the competition for a winter move.
According to Fanatik, there’s been ‘significant developments’ in the club’s pursuit of both Elneny and Gedson Fernandes, with the latter currently tied to Benfica.
Fanatik say Gala have ‘reached an agreement’ with both players, and now they need to work on convincing Arsenal and the Lisbon club. In this regard they’ve taken ‘serious steps’, with confidence clearly building that the moves can happen.
Apparently, the Gunners have agreed to ‘release’ their player, which makes it sound like they’re prepared to agree to a free transfer. The 29-year-old’s contract expires at the end of the season, and that’s partly behind the optimism.
However, given the injury to Granit Xhaka, Mikel Arteta may not be keen to lose a body in midfield, especially if there’s no fee coming in. So, regardless of the confidence, and Elneny being keen on the deal, Galatasaray may have to wait until next summer.
