With Hugo Lloris heading towards the end of his career, Tottenham have been linked to a few goalkeepers of late, but Spurs aren’t the only team who are wondering what to do when the veteran hangs up his gloves.
The France national team also need to think who will step up when the former Lyon star retires from international football, and Leeds United’s Illan Meslier is among the favourites to eventually get the job.
The likes of Alphonse Aréola and Mike Maignan are both currently ahead of him in the pecking order, but that’s mostly because they are over the age of 21 and cannot feature for France’s U21s, while the Elland Road player can.
When the time comes, however, the Tottenham star believes Meslier could end up being a contender, and he’s already impressed with what the youngster has shown since being thrown at the deep end by Marcelo Bielsa.
We’ll have to wait and see what Didier Deschamps, or his successor, decides to do after the 2022 World Cup, which will likely be Lloris’ final big competition with Les Bleus.
The Leeds United man is certainly one to look out for, having already fully convinced one of the most demanding managers in the world with his talent.
