It seems Joost van Aken to Sheffield Wednesday wasn’t just something for the weekend.
Monday’s edition of De Telegraaf has a relatively big piece on the defender’s potential transfer from Heerenveen to the Championship.
It all started off with a Heerenveen fan website in the Netherlands, who reported Van Aken would be moving to Sheffield Wednesday instead of Lazio. The Italian club had been repeatedly linked, but not gone far enough with their interest, leaving space and time for The Owls to move in.
When Van Aken was kept out of Heerenveen’s match against ADO, the rumour started to be taken more seriously, and that’s when outlets like De Telegraaf got on to it.
The Dutch newspaper report Heerenveen are ‘ready to reach an agreement’ with Sheffield Wednesday for the 23 year old defender.
After that, Van Aken would ‘immediately leave’ for the Championship club, and Heerenveen would get on with finding a replacement. That could be a low-cost replacement after 17 year old Kik Pierie impressed in Van Aken’s absence.
Initial claims put a potential fee at around €5m, but De Telegraaf don’t give any opinion on price, and it would be no surprise if it ends up lower.
