Saturday’s edition of A Bola reports Sheffield Wednesday last night sent an official to the match between Benfica and Portimonense.
The Championship side made regular trips to Portugal last season, and it seems they will continue to do so in this campaign, but last night’s trip could be especially interesting.
Sheffield Wednesday played Portimonense during a summer friendly, winning 1-0, and players who showed good flashes, including 23 year old Pedro Sa, took to the field against Benfica.
It’s been confirmed Sheffield Wednesday were on the scouting list for the game, which Benfica won 2-1. The Owls were joined by fellow English side Manchester United, and the match attracted clubs from across Europe, including Sampdoria, Frankfurt, AS Monaco and Eibar.
There have been no reports who Sheffield Wednesday were watching last night, but given the players who turned out for Benfica there’s a good chance they were scouting somebody from Portimonense.
It doesn’t take a great assumption to believe Wednesday were impressed by someone during the friendly, and want a closer look.
Since the arrival of Carlos Carvalhal at Sheffield Wednesday the club have extended their scouting network in Portugal, and have recruited from the country in previous windows.
Despite the transfer window closing last week it seems the Yorkshire side are still looking at possible targets for January and beyond.
