Although there haven’t been many updates on Sheffield United’s moves to sign Roger Martinez from America, it seems the player himself is the one seeking a transfer.
The Mexican and Colombian media have been full of stories reporting the striker’s wish to emigrate to Europe, after he admitted it in an interview on Friday.
“I’m very happy and grateful for everything that America did for me. Also with Piojo, who made me grow as a player and as a person. But I think it’s a time to grow and return to Europe,” said Roger Martinez (via Record).
“My representative has told me that there are teams from Europe interested in me. I talked to the coach and told him that if a good proposal comes I want to take advantage of it.”
Meanwhile, local journalists have been giving some updates on the situation. A claim from Jonatan Peña says that Martinez is only leaving America in case an interested club pay US$20m for him.
There’s only one club being linked to him, and that’s Sheffield United. Websites like America Monumental and Futbol Total only name the Blades as a possible destination.
Maybe that’s a good sign for the Premier League side, but they better make an official offer before other European clubs start seeing Martinez as a target as well.
