Championship side Sheffield United have reportedly been on a transfer mission in Lisbon this Sunday.
As reported by newspaper O Jogo, the Blades had scouts at Estádio do Restelo watching Belenenses playing Porto in the Portuguese league.
The newspaper doesn’t really say who the scouts were watching. Although we find it unlikely that Sheffield United could sign a starting player from Porto, it’s pretty plausible that they could get any player from Belenenses. Both because of having financial conditions as well as the Championship being an attractive league these days.
Now the emissaries ended up watching a very exciting game, with Porto opening 2-0, Belenenses getting an equaliser in the 83rd minute, and the Dragons finding a winner six minutes into extra time.
For Belenenses, right winger Fred had a great performance, with one goal and one assist. Goalkeeper Muriel and left-back Zakarya also did well.
For Porto, it was the left-back Alex Telles who stood out after scoring the winner. Midfielder Hector Herrera had a pretty good match too.
That was an unusual visit from Sheffield United, who are rarely seen in the scouting lists in Portugal. They were accompanied by officials from Arsenal and Manchester United, who scout a big percentage of Liga NOS games.
