A week ago, we covered claims from Germany which stated Hertha Berlin’s Jonjoe Kenny has reached a verbal agreement with Sheffield United.
Two days later, the 27-year-old stated he wants to join the Blades in the winter market and hopes the clubs find an agreement.
Bild mention the right-back’s verbal agreement with Sheffield United and provide the latest.
The Englishman has less than six months left on his deal and this window will be the last chance for Hertha to earn a fee.
The Championship side are offering €600,000 plus the same amount as a bonus if they secure a promotion. They are second in the table, a point behind leaders Leeds United and two points ahead of third placed Burnley, so it looks a reasonable chance.
The second division German club are asking for €2m to let the former Everton man leave. Bild state Chris Wilder’s side have given an ‘ultimatum of Wednesday’ and if there is no agreement with Hertha to sign Kenny, they will look at other options.
On the English club’s interest, Hertha sporting director Benjamin Weber told Bild: “The change has not yet been confirmed. There’s no direct contact with the club mentioned. There is contact with Jonjoe Kenny’s management and things have been exchanged.”
Kenny wants to return to England in the ongoing window. Bild warn his ‘head and heart’ won’t be at Hertha if the transfer to Sheffield United collapses.
Despite Weber stating there’s no direct contact with Sheffield United, Sky Deutschland claim the Blades are in advanced negotiations to sign Kenny.
There’s expectation for the two clubs to reach total agreement within two days for a fee of ‘mid-six-figure range, plus significant bonus’ if the Blades return to the top division. Sky Deutschland’s ‘s report encourages optimism of an agreement for Kenny’s transfer.
