Hugo Lloris has had a difficult week or so, most of it through his own making.
Victory over Manchester United, and the support of Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino, will have been a boost to the footballer after his drink drive arrest, but then karma came and slapped him around the face with an injury.
Pochettino made the fitness issue public and confirmed Lloris wouldn’t be under consideration for Spurs on Sunday as they face Watford in the Premier League.
Immediately in France it was reported that the goalkeeper would still be joining up with the national squad for the upcoming matches, regardless of any injury.
L’Equipe cover that on Sunday and say Lloris will join up on Monday and then go through an injury assessment at Clairefontaine, France’s training base.
It’s expected PSG’s Alphonse Areola could be given the chance to make his debut, given that Marseille’s Steve Mandanda is also injured.
But there’s a brighter slant on things.
L’Equipe points out Lloris only really had two weeks of real holiday this summer, spending his third week training with Nice.
A break for a week or so now could be beneficial for Lloris, Tottenham and France in the longer term.
