Mamadou Sakho’s situation at Liverpool is getting very desperate.
The French defender has been rotting in the club’s reserves for the entire first half of the season ever since his prohibited substance ban and subsequent fallout with the German manager over the summer, and is yet to make an appearance for the Reds since.
With a long list of clubs rumoured to be keen on his services, Sakho wants to remain at the top level, making a move back to France unlikely, clearly seeing it as a step down.
Transferring to a club like West Brom was also an option, but this would probably mean taking a wage cut, which Sakho is clearly not prepared to do.
Other options are now presenting themselves to the player, with Le10 Sport running an exclusive on Tuesday claiming that Spartak Moscow have made a big move for the former Paris Saint-Germain captain.
This was confirmed a bit later by Mohamed Bouhafsi on a Facebook Live chat for RMC Sport, revealing the player also had a few nice offers from China.
Even if no final decision has been made as of yet, Le10 Sport report Sakho would be ‘prepared to accept’ the substantial financial offer from Spartak, with a ‘serious probability’ of the move going through.
Crazier things have happened in football in the past, that’s for sure, and with other clubs like Sevilla, Galatasaray and Fenerbahce all after his services, Sakho has an important choice to make.
We just never expected it to be Russia.
