Look, we’re not here to create any rumours, but when a player openly admits of wanting to play for a team, it’s pretty much a ‘Lads, if you’ve got the money, I’ll say yes’ plea.
Normally, this tends to be footballers at smaller clubs who ‘dream of playing for Liverpool’ or ‘grew up watching Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United’, but in Kalidou Koulibaly’s case, it’s a bit different.
Speaking to Il Mattino, the Senegalese centre-back was asked if there was a football club or a manager he would like to play for/under, and his choice wasn’t all that surprising, considering he was beat by them twice this season already.
He said: “Manchester City play out game and I like them a lot, but I don’t think I could say there’s a particular manager I’d like to work with at the moment”.
While we aren’t surprised to hear a player revealing he’d like to play for Pep Guardiola’s current side, the timing of this is rather interesting.
Manchester City and their manager have made it very clear they will be looking for defensive reinforcements in January, and while there’s little chance of them getting Kalidou Koulibaly in the next month, it might be something they’ll want to keep in mind for the summer.
Napoli will be a tough side to negotiate with, but Aurelio de Laurentiis knows every player has a price, and if Pep Guardiola really wants someone, especially a footballer who would be great for his side, like Kalidou Koulibaly, there’s little the Cityzens’ owners won’t do to please the man currently well on his way to leading them to Premier League glory.
