Bought with a lot of promise from Feyenoord, Jordy Clasie’s time at Southampton has been the stellar step to the Premier League a lot of people anticipated.
Only starting 12 league games last season, playing second fiddle to Oriol Romeu and Steven Davis, the Dutch midfielder, in a World Cup year, could look elsewhere this summer, and there’s one club particularly interested in him.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Clasie is being considered by Lazio as a replacement for the possibly departing Lucas Biglia, who has attracted a lot of interest from AC Milan as they look to strengthen their squad with a big transfer window this summer.
The main competition for Clasie is fellow Dutchman Marten de Roon, currently at Middlesbrough, and his experience in Serie A means he’s in pole position.
However, the fact the Southampton midfielder has a lot more experience under his belt, especially internationally (15 caps) and in the Europa League, which Lazio will play next season, makes him a valuable alternative.
But, before any of this becomes a problem for Southampton, Biglia has to leave, which isn’t the case for the time being.
