With Mohamed Salah called up to the African Cup of Nations to represent Egypt in the international competition, AS Roma will be without one of their stars in a key part of the season, and the search for a replacement has been underway for a while.

One of the first names to appear was Memphis Depay, but that ship sailed a while ago it seems, and turning to other Premier League teams has become a bit of a thing for the Italian club.

The latest in a long list of possible options is, according to Gazzetta dello Sport, West Ham’s Sofiane Feghouli, used sparingly by Slaven Bilic so far this season, giving the Algerian international the chance to adapt to English football, having made the jump from Valencia on a free in the summer.

Handed his first Premier League start on Monday against Manchester United, the forward was sent off by Mike Dean after 15 minutes following a 50/50 clash with Phil Jones, a decision the Hammers have already made clear they will appeal.

The favourite for the job, however, remains Paris Saint-Germain’s Jesé, while Chelsea’s Charly Musonda Jr. is also being studied as a target.

Slaven Bilic starting Feghouli against José Mourinho’s side on Monday was a big show of confidence, especially after the player was left out of Algeria’s African Cup of Nations squad, and it appears the Croatian manager is starting to trust his forward more and more.

With this in mind, a deal that would see the player leave so soon after his arrival, even temporarily, seems unlikely, and Roma are probably better off looking elsewhere.
