Empoli are the latest club to show an interest in Salernitana forward Massimo Coda, after impressing for the Serie B side this season. The 28-year-old has been linked with a move to Leeds United in recent months following talks in August.

Cronache Salerno have claimed Empoli are monitoring the situation with Coda, and are serious about the Italian striker. The Serie A side are keen to bring in a forward in the winter transfer window as they look to consolidate their place in the top flight, and Coda is their main target.

Empoli currently sit just above the relegation zone, mainly due to being the lowest scorers in Serie A, with just ten goals. The Tuscan side want to address this by bringing in Coda, and if unsuccessful they could turn to Parma’s Alberto Gilardino.

During the last transfer window, we covered reports from Italy that Leeds United owner Massimo Cellino was showing an interest in Coda, and was hoping to pull off a deal with the Serie B side before the deadline.

Despite no offer coming in from the Championship side it was claimed officials from Leeds United held meetings in Milan with the sporting director of Salernitana to thrash out a deal.

However, Leeds United’s approach came too late in the window, so a deal couldn’t be done in time, and perhaps the €3m fee was deemed too high.
