With 2016 now finally behind us, many will have hit the reset button on many things in their lives to try the whole “New Year New Me” thing, but that doesn’t work in the world of transfers.

Targets remain the same, and Aston Villa’s Jordan Amavi is still on Marseille’s radar as the 2017 January transfer window gets underway.

The Villain, who has established himself as a key man under Steve Bruce at Villa Park, previously made it clear he wasn’t looking for a way out, but that hasn’t stopped the French club from presenting him with a first offer.

La Provence on Tuesday report that Rudi Garcia’s team have been in contact with the player’s entourage, and have handed them what they think is a good starting point for negotiations, waiting on the player’s agent to return with a slightly changed proposal.

Of course, this appears to have been done without both clubs reaching an agreement first, meaning this is all meant to be hush-hush etc…

Marseille are in desperate need of a new left-back, and Amavi is said to be ‘studying’ the offer from the French club, but that doesn’t mean he’ll accept it.

The Championship star isn’t the only player the Ligue 1 side are looking at, yet he does appear to be their favourite candidate for the job, and why wouldn’t he be?

Amavi has already proven he has what it takes to impress in the French league, doing so at Nice before his move to Aston Villa, and with a bright future ahead of him, being only 22, the transfer would be a move for both the present and the future.
