Pep Guardiola’s current contract at Manchester City runs out at the end of the season.
There isn’t any sign of an imminent renewal, and until one is secured the rumours will rise.
Whilst who would replace him at Manchester City gets the most attention right now, Guardiola could be looking for a new job after pioneering a revolution in Manchester.
While it is too early to look at where the Spaniard might head to next, Sergio Aguero was asked about his former manager’s future in the game.
The Argentine believes Guardiola could look to manage an international side, largely because there are limited attractive options at club level.
He told Mundo Deportivo: “There is no longer a team for Pep after Barça, Bayern or City. It would mean going back to doing what he did at City by making signings and I don’t see him starting that routine except for a national team.
“He would have less daily work and could analyse more. In a short time he could introduce his playing style to internationals who already have talent, although that depends on which country he chooses. In addition to Brazil and Argentina, there are teams in Europe that could fit his style.”
Guardiola has been linked with national team roles in the recent past. International management is a completely different ball game because players don’t spend as much time with coaches, but the Guardiola template has spread across the world now.
Because of that, it may be easier for him to manage an international team than it would have been a decade ago.
