Liverpool assistant manager Pepijn Lijnders could find himself on Feyenoord’s list of replacements for Arne Slot, if he ends up moving to Anfield.
That’s at least according to Algemeen Dagblad, relayed by Voetbal Zone, who say the Liverpool assistant is on a long list as Slot continues to be linked with a move away.
Slot appears to be the number one candidate for Liverpool right now, with the Reds making a formal approach for him on Wednesday morning after seemingly deciding against a move for Sporting Club de Portugal manager Ruben Amorim.
Their first bid has been swiftly rejected by Feyenoord, who will reluctantly let Slot depart but only on their own terms.
The belief is that Slot will be departing at some point, particularly with reports in the Netherlands indicating his agents are already working on the final details of a contract with Liverpool and that he wants the move.
AD, local to the club, now say Feyenoord are already exploring their options to replace the Dutchman and Lijnders is part of that list.
He has already made it clear he will be leaving alongside Klopp in the summer, with Klopp also admitting his assistant wants to move into management and he’s been linked to the jobs at Ajax and Besiktas in recent months.
At the moment he only appears to be on a long list of options being explored, with the club seemingly keen on hiring another Dutchman and that giving him a better chance.
That would certainly be a sensational turn of events and add another facet to what has already become a predictable soap opera at Anfield.
