Aston Villa are keen on signing Galatasaray star Nicolò Zaniolo to bolster their attack for the new season.
The Istanbul club sealed a 1-0 win over NK Olimpija Ljubljana in a Champions League qualifier on Tuesday and the winger was left out of the squad.
That’s because of the ongoing negotiations with regards to his transfer to Aston Villa, according to Galatasaray manager Okan Buruk. He made these comments after Tuesday’s tie, relayed by NTV Spor.
“The process regarding Zaniolo continues. He’s a player who wants to play in the Premier League, we respect that. If the interests of our club are going to be met, it seems like this transfer will happen,” he said.
The Turkish champions have strengthened their attack by adding Tetê this summer. TRT Spor have relayed additional comments made by Buruk on Zaniolo, where he explains the need to bring in further reinforcements if the Italy international is sold.
“It seems like it will be in the interests of the club, [but] I don’t know what will happen [with Zaniolo]. We’re going to make reinforcements to our squad again,” Buruk explained.
On Tuesday, journalist Gianluca Di Marzio reported Unai Emery’s side have reached an agreement with Galatasaray. He also said the 24-year-old is expected to arrive in England on Wednesday to undergo medical tests with the Villans.
The Turkish club signed the player from AS Roma in January and he’s now set to complete a move to Aston Villa.
During his brief time in Turkey he scored five goals and registered an assist from 12 games for Galatasaray.
