After La Repubblica started stirring the Sergej Milinkovic-Savic to Manchester United pot early on Tuesday afternoon, AS in Spain pushed the story further a few hours later.
The Italian newspaper claimed that after Real Madrid ‘accelerated’ for Paul Pogba, the Red Devils quickly turned their attention to the Serbian, whose move to Old Trafford was apparently very close for a fee of €75m + bonuses.
Well, AS appear to have similar information, claiming the same amount, explaining Manchester United are ‘close to finding an agreement’ with Lazio for the player.
When we first read it, we thought they were just relaying La Repubblica’s story, but towards the end, their version is different, mostly when it comes to Pogba’s side of things.
While the Italians believed Real Madrid had ‘accelerated’, AS don’t think that’s the case, even if the contacts between Mino Raiola and the La Liga giants are ‘constant’.
Sources close to Lazio ‘ensure that Milinkovic-Savic will go to Manchester United when Pogba is dressed in white’, but there’s not the same urgency to it all.
AS were told this scenario is ‘concrete and possible, although not imminent’.
As they put it, ‘time is still needed, but the pieces are beginning to fit…’
An interesting turn of events, and we’ll have to see what happens down Manchester United’s end regarding Pogba as they prepare to face Tottenham on Thursday, a friendly Solskjaer will have undoubtedly planned to play the Frenchman in.
