With just a year left on his current deal at Tottenham, Mousa Dembélé has been the subject of serious transfer rumours from Italy.
The main protagonists in this story have been Inter, who even travelled to England to hold casual talks with Spurs about the Belgium international, but, as of yet, no offer has arrived.
One of the reasons behind this has been the Serie A side’s parallel interest in long-term target Radja Nainggolan, whom they appear to be getting closer to signing by the day.
This leaves an opening for other clubs to come swooping in, which is exactly what Napoli could end up doing, according to Corriere dello Sport.
This isn’t the first time Aurelio de Laurentiis and co. have given the idea some consideration, and the Italian newspaper believe they are still mulling it over, such are the qualities Dembélé could bring to the Serie A side.
They are, however, also aware of Inter’s competition in the matter, as well as the question marks surrounding the Spurs star’s physical issues in the past.
However, the fact he’s only got one year left on his deal does make him an attractive prospect for Napoli, who will be looking at replacing Jorginho (and maybe even Marek Hamsik) in the coming weeks.
This backs up claims from Belgium that Napoli and Roma had also joined the race to sign the Tottenham midfielder, who wants his exit sorted out in the coming months as he’s worried his body won’t be able to take another season in the Premier League.
Now to sit down and chat with Daniel Levy….
