Heavily linked to Juventus over the past month or so, Alvaro Morata could end up at another Italian club, according to Corriere dello Sport on Tuesday.
The Italian newspaper report AC Milan are interested in the Chelsea forward, hoping to sign a prolific goalscorer in the coming months after their relatively expensive gamble on André Silva failed to pay off.
The Portuguese striker only managed to score two league goals this season, and there have been a number of rumours suggesting Jorge Mendes is looking to move his protégé to another club this summer to get him back to his best.
On top of Silva leaving, Corriere explain the likes of Ignazio Abate, the Donnarumma brothers, Suso and Luca Antonelli could all leave San Siro over the course of the transfer window.
This, if it all goes to plan, should allow Milan to secure the funds to pay for a new striker, like Morata, especially if they can bolster their midfield for free with the acquisition of Marouane Fellaini.
Corriere report Mario Mandzukic and Andrea Belotti are also being considered for the role, with one being far cheaper than the other.
Alvaro Morata’s experience in Serie A is clearly vital, as they know he wouldn’t have any issues adapting to the league following his successful spell at Juventus, and while there’s no Champions League to play in Milan, there isn’t any in London either after Chelsea finished 5th in the Premier League this season.
Furthermore, the Spaniard, who won’t be going to the World Cup after he was left out of his country’s squad by Julen Lopetegui, would be the uncontested starting striker under Gennaro Gattuso, with only the talented 20-year-old Patrick Cutrone as his closest competition for the role.
This does make sense, perhaps more so than a return to Juventus, where he’d be in direct competition with Gonzalo Higuain, and it’s something we’ll definitely be keeping an eye on over the coming weeks.
