For the past few days, reports in Portugal have talked about Benfica and Southampton interest in Leicester City’s Demarai Gray.
The winger’s contract will expire at end of this season and there’s a suggestion his situation with the Foxes would make Gray a market opportunity for the likes of the Saints, Tottenham Hotspur and Everton, along with the others across Europe.
Gray has been restricted to only one league appearance and was given 18 minutes of action during Leicester’s 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace last week.
Le Phocéen relays France Football’s claims about Marseille interest in the 24-year-old.
The Ligue 1 side could see Florian Thauvin leave the club as a free agent in the summer and hence, Marseille chief Pablo Longoria is closely following the former England U21 international to be Thauvin’s potential successor.
Gray’s decision to reject a renewal offer and Brendan Rodgers having several other options in attacking positions has seen the manager not hand him regular opportunities this season.
An unnamed Premier League scout told Le Phocéen the likes of Everton, Southampton and Tottenham could make an approach for the Leicester player, if he’s available on a free transfer in the summer.
“He is a very good player who keeps an excellent rating in England. He is still one of the very good wingers of his generation, even if his contractual situation at Leicester means that he is being ruled out by Rodgers and the managers,” a Premier League scout said.
“He is very quick and skilful at knocking out his opponent in the middle of the race, as well as against goalies with a tendency to open his foot to find the opposing side of the net. There will surely be competition, as I think good English clubs will move, like Everton, Tottenham or Southampton.”
