With links that Liverpool are interested in VfL Wolfsburg’s Micky van de Ven, they have an ace up their sleeve in newly appointed director of football Jörg Schmadtke.
This is courtesy of Waz Online, with journalist Thomas Gassmann giving his two cents on the recent news and how it could affect the club.
Starting off at the beginning, he recalls that Liverpool’s Schmadtke actually spent four and a half years restructuring the German club with Marcel Schäfer, their director of football, making it ‘future proof’.
The 59-year-old has now moved to Anfield, but he ‘wants something’ from his former side, and that’s the Dutch defender.
While that could be seen as a low blow for the German side, Gassmann states ‘there is nothing wrong’ with Schmadtke potentially sitting down with Wolfsburg and Schäfer, because ‘both appreciate each other and both know how to deal with each other’.
That should lead to rather straightforward talks, and ‘it doesn’t take a prophet’ to neither side would rip the other off.
Therefore, if Liverpool and Jürgen Klopp ‘actually want to sign’ Van de Ven, Schmadtke ‘will have to fulfil’ the order or risk another club coming in and stealing him from under their nose.
