The UEFA Champions League draw today paired Liverpool wilth Spanish giants Real Madrid in the tournament’s quarterfinals.
This will be the first time the Reds have faced the Galacticos since the competition’s final in 2018, when the La Liga side triumphed with a 3-1 win.
Besides the poor performance from Loris Karius, that match was also marked by Mohamed Salah’s injury, as the Egyptian star had to leave the pitch following a challenge from Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos.
So when speaking to the Spanish media about the draw today, Brazilian legend Roberto Carlos recalled the incident, claiming that will be remembered in the upcoming matches.
“Salah isn’t even going to get close to Sergio,” said Roberto Carlos (via Marca).
“It will be an action that will be talked about a lot.”
The former Real Madrid left-back highlighted Liverpool’s quality and urged the Spanish side to have a good result in the first leg at the Santiago Bernabeu.
“We’re going to play against a good team. The first game is at home, Real Madrid’s moment is great and they must decide the tie at home.
“The important thing is that Zidane has all his players ready, that they come back as quickly as possible. It’s easy for him to be a coach here because he has the best at his disposal. If a game doesn’t go well, he has eight players of the highest level waiting to play.”
Jurgen Klopp hasn’t had the same strength in depth with Liverpool this season, and will be hoping there’s no further injury issues ahead of the matches against Real Madrid.
Potentially winning the competition would be a huge boost after a poor season for the Reds.
