Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny, who’s currently on loan at Besiktas, has spoken to Turkish newspaper Milliyet about Liverpool star Mohamed Salah.
Both players were together at Swiss side Basel and they’ve also been playing alongside each other with the Egyptian national team for several years.
Speaking about Salah, Elneny said he and the Liverpool winger are like ‘brothers’ and that they’ve been together almost every step of their career: “Salah is my brother. We played in the same team in Egypt and then he left to join Basel. After that, I followed him, and I joined Basel. We were together most of the time. Then he went to England, after that I went to England.
“I don’t want to say he is my friend because he is much closer to me. Everybody knows what a great player he is. In my opinion, he’s one of the best players in the Premier League. He knows what he wants. He is very smart. He can see the small details and punish the opposition.”
Since signing for Liverpool from AS Roma in 2017 Salah has set the Premier League on fire and has been the league’s top scorer in the past two seasons. The attacker also won the Champions League with the Reds in May, scoring the opening goal in the final against Tottenham Hotspur.
Elneny hasn’t had the same success in England as his compatriot and has failed to make a real impact since signing for Arsenal. Last season the central midfielder struggled to get games for the Gunners and subsequently he was loaned to Besiktas for this season.
