According to a claim from Russian website Championat, Zenit St Petersburg were interested in signing Celtic defender Kristoffer Ajer, and have been put off by the Scottish club’s valuation of the player.
It’s reported the Russian giants have tried to acquire the 21 year old but Celtic’s asking price was too much for them.
The Scottish Premiership side told Zenit their financial demands, and Championat report that after the club were informed, they decided not to pursue the Norway international further.
Ajer has been key in Neil Lennon’s side so far this season and it seems he will stay at Celtic Park despite Zenit’s efforts to sign him.
This season the former Start player has made 9 appearances for the Hoops in all competitions, scoring two goals.
Ajer has already won two Scottish Premiership titles with Celtic since making the breakthrough into the senior team and he’s under contract with the club until June 2022.
His performances in the past 18 months have helped him to cement a place in the Norwegian national team.
