There has been constant talk in Portugal about Manchester United’s potential interest in Benfica’s Alvaro Carreras.
Even though Luke Shaw is nearing a return to actio, his injury troubles over the last few seasons provide little guarantee about his availability. That makes many United supporters worry about the left-back role at Old Trafford.
Carreras was at the club not too long ago and was sold to Benfica after an initial loan period. He’s had a mixed time there, but has shown he’s worth keeping an eye on.
O Jogo today report on the Spaniard’s situation and they seem quite sure that Carreras will ‘fit like a glove’ in Rúben Amorim’s system.
A January move is quite unlikely as Benfica are not looking to sell any first-team regulars in the winter market, but the summer transfer window could be the time when the Red Devils beat Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid in the chase.
O Jogo report Barca and both Madrid clubs are keen, but make it clear Manchester United can easily beat them via their €20m buyback clause.
