Leicester City defender Christian Fuchs says he is hoping to extend his stay at the club beyond the end of this season.
The left-back has been at the Kingpower Stadium since 2015 after arriving on a free transfer from Schalke in 2015.
He was a key member of the squad that won the title under Claudio Ranieri but has found his playing time increasingly limited with the emergence of Ben Chilwell.
His contract at the club is set to expire this summer, and it had been expected he would depart Leicester at the end of the season as a result.
It seems, though, that won’t be the case, with the 33-year-old revealing Brendan Rodgers has made it clear he wants to keep him on.
“If Leicester plays in the European Cup next season, you need a big squad, it’s hard to reduce,” he told APA in Austria, relayed by Heute.
“And Rodgers has told me he wants to keep me on at all costs and we’ll certainly be able to work something out, so I’m relaxed in that respect.”
Like footballers the world over, Fuchs currently finds himself self-isolating amid the ongoing Coronavirus epidemic.
The Leicester City man flew out to New York in mid-March to be with his family there but has since moved out of the city as the situation worsened there.
He is waiting to discover when football in England will return but says he’s not particularly interested in football at this point.
“In this situation, the only thing that interests me is that my family is doing well,” he added.
“At the moment I’m not in a football mood.”
