Watford’s great start to the Premier League season is attracting interest from around the football world.
Over in Spain the coverage is especially strong, likely to be because of a certain Javi Gracia. When the manager took over at the Hornets, it’s fair to say most of the Spanish media didn’t really know an awful lot about the club, despite them being regulars in England’s top flight.
Articles about Gracia’s arrival were littered with Elton John references, as the only thing known was repeated constantly. Gracia himself was even asked about the honorary president repeatedly in interviews, as the media looked for an angle they could relate to.
Now things are different and Watford are getting attention for their football.
Four wins from four should probably see the club top of the league, but the better goal differences of pesky Liverpool and Chelsea are denying that pleasure.
It’s an ‘illusion’, the club are ‘on a cloud’, the start to the season has been ‘legendary’.
But Marca insist this isn’t all by chance, it’s down to the hard work of ‘great architect’ Gracia. A defensive solidarity has been achieved, and everything else is built upon that.
Troy Deeney gets special mention for his own personal career story, and it’s stated that at Watford they’re already starting to dream of doing a Leicester.
A couple more wins in this run, and perhaps Liverpool and Chelsea tripping up, and sport media all around the world will start the ‘next Leicester’ excitement.
