Former Colombia star Faustino Asprilla has told Liverpool star Luis Diaz that all of the responsibility for the national team now falls on his shoulders.
Diaz is the rising star of Colombian football at this moment in time, having established himself as a key player for his country during the Copa America.
His success in that tournament was built on his fine performances for Porto, where he was the star man over the last few years in Portugal.
Indeed, his performances led Liverpool to move for his signature in the January transfer window, paying £45m to sign him ahead of the competition.
He’s been a big hit at Anfield since his arrival, with a series of impressive performances getting Reds fans excited.
There is a growing belief that the 25-year-old could enjoy the same sort of development that the likes of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane have went through under Jurgen Klopp’s guidance.
His country would certainly be pleased with that, although Asprilla says the Liverpool man has to realise they cannot wait for him to develop.
“Luis Diaz has to be the number one player responsible for what happens from now on in the Colombian national team,” Futbol Red report him saying.
“All the responsibility falls on him now; he has to realise that he is in one of the biggest teams in Europe and the Luis Diaz we see in England is the one we want to see in the national team.
“We must give him the tools to be able to develop as he does at Liverpool. I think he can become the most important player in the national team in the next ten years.”
