Trabzonspor midfielder John Obi Mikel has rubbished claims he’s been offered a coaching role at Chelsea.
There were recent reports in the African media stating the Nigerian has the chance to work alongside his former teammate Frank Lampard at Chelsea, but the 32 year old has confirmed these rumours are not true.
Speaking about a possible return to Stamford Bridge as covered by Sabah, Mikel said: “To be honest, I have no idea where this story came from. I was surprised when I saw the news because neither me nor my club had a meeting with Chelsea about becoming a coach. Chelsea is, of course, my home, but the reports aren’t true.”
Mikel spent 11 years at Chelsea and won nine major honours with the club, making 372 appearances for the Blues. The midfielder won the Champions League with the London club in 2012.
He joined Trabzonspor on a free transfer at the start of the season after his contract with Championship side Middlesbrough expired and he’s currently one of the most important players in Huseyin Cimcir’s side,
The player has been key in in the Trabzon club chasing their first league title in 39 years, with his side currently second in the Turkish Super Lig.
