Remi Garde has been linked, strongly, with a number of jobs since leaving Aston Villa the season before last. Aston Villa have very much moved on, with Steve Bruce trying to get the squad together for a promotion push, but Garde is clearly in no hurry to get back into employment.
The most recent job linked to the former Villa Park boss is Standard Liege. The Belgium club have recently been through a turbulent time, and there were claims Garde was set to take on the mission to get Standard back to the top.
However, Belgian newspaper Het Belang van Limburg say everything has collapsed and a proposed two year contract for Garde to manage Standard is now ‘in the trash’. The Frenchman wasn’t overly keen after speaking to Standard, and edged away from the role.
Given Garde has now, seemingly, backed away from a string of opportunities, one may wonder if he’s quite happy with his Aston Villa compensation. For now, at least.
