On Tuesday, Tottenham’s Pau Lopez gave an interview to Onda Cero in Spain where he tried to shed some light on his current situation.

On loan at White Hart Lane/Wembley until the end of the season, the young Spanish goalkeeper was the subject of negotiations between Spurs and his club Espanyol, but that doesn’t appear to be the case anymore.

A pre-agreement in the loan stated Tottenham could buy him for around €7m, yet the Premier League club’s offer of less than half that did little to convince their La Liga counterparts they were taking the player’s talents seriously.

In fact, Sport on Thursday claim that talks between the two clubs have broken down, and that the 22-year-old will now be expected to be with Espanyol for the start of pre-season.

Tottenham’s £2m bid for the player wasn’t anywhere near what the Spanish side wanted, which led Daniel Levy to pull out.

After all, Lopez, for all his talent, failed to make a single appearance under Mauricio Pochettino last season, appearing seven times for the reserves instead.

While we’re sure the young goalkeeper would have loved to eventually establish himself in a team like Tottenham, returning to his former side isn’t exactly a chore for him, as he made clear on Tuesday.

Calling Espanyol the ‘club of his heart’ and his ‘home’, we’re fairly certain he’ll be able to get over the failed transfer to London fairly quickly.

And, on top of that, he’ll very likely start every game for them, too.

Still, it would be no surprise if this all changes quickly and Tottenham put in a more reasonable offer.
