Sampdoria face Cremonese this evening and will again be without Harry Winks, with the Tottenham Hotspur player still not in the club’s squad.

The 26-year-old joined the Genoa club on loan in the summer market, given he wasn’t part of Antonio Conte’s plans at Spurs. He’s yet to make any kind of appearance for the Serie A side, which is particularly disappointing given they’d seen him as a major signing.

Winks last made an appearance in May, coming on as a second half substitute for Tottenham against Norwich City. Since he moved to Sampdoria he’s been struggling with an ankle injury, with ClubDoria46 saying it ‘haunts’ the player.

The midfielder hasn’t even been training with the squad, and there’s no firm indication of when he’ll return to action.

For Sampdoria he ‘remains a mysterious object’, with fans still not being able to see why their club agreed to the deal with Tottenham. In all likelihood it’s now going to be after the World Cup break before Winks has a chance to make any kind of impact in Italy, with his difficult situation continuing.
