In his last two appearances for Tottenham Hotspur, Moussa Sissoko has picked up a goal and an assist.
Yet to complete a game for Spurs this season, Sissoko is still getting matches, and playing a bigger role than many would have expected.
Speaking openly about a potential exit during the summer, Sissoko now insists he spoke with his agent and decided a Tottenham stay was the best idea in a World Cup season.
A likelier reason for staying is the lack of offers attractive enough for the French midfielder. There had been interest in Turkey, but Sissoko may well feel that a move to Turkish football could have harmed his international chances.
Now back in Didier Deschamps’ squad, Sissoko has been speaking to L’Equipe and was asked about his better situation.
Mauricio Pochettino turning to Sissoko has been a welcome change for the player, and the goal against Huddersfield Town the cherry on top.
Sissoko told L’Equipe: “I felt a relief, a liberation. It was a moment of enormous joy because I had been waiting for this goal for a while. It is also linked to a complicated last season. But I never give up anything.
“It’s often said that it is in difficult moments that one learns the most. These delicate moments allowed me to ask myself the right questions, to think well, to work even more and to rebound. Today, the wheel has turned!”
The midfielder believes his current situation is a result of the work he’s put in over the past year being recognised by Pochettino, rather than a change in his own application.
