Following what appeared to be a rather tense stand off between Kara and Anderlecht over the rejected offers from both Leicester and Crystal Palace towards the end of the January transfer window, the Senegalese defender signed a new contract with the Belgium club.
Receiving two offers from Claudio Ranieri’s side worth up to €10.5m and a reported €12m from Sam Allardyce, the Jupiler Pro League side decided to keep their key defender until at least the end of the season.
However, the decision to do so hasn’t exactly gone down like a treat in Belgium, with DH’s editor somewhat questioning the decision, seeing it as a big €10m gamble.
The reasoning behind Anderlecht rejecting the offers from Leicester and Crystal Palace is that Kara’s presence in the squad is invaluable, and he could be key in Anderlecht securing a Champions League spot.
Doing so would, of course, be seen as a great decision from Anderlecht as they would secure €20m from the elite European competition.
But what if they don’t? Well, not selling Kara to either Leicester or Crystal Palace will have cost the Belgian side up to €12m, money they could very well need with no Champions League money.
Then there’s the summer transfer window. DH ask the question, will they be able to sell Kara for €10m then?
They don’t think so, especially if his weak knee, which they fear might need an operation, gives way midway through the second half of the season.
