Carlos Carvalhal is a popular figure in the Portuguese media, where his achievements and progress at Sheffield Wednesday are followed closely. There’s a certain pride taken in Carvalhal’s popularity at Wednesday, and how he’s endeared himself to the club’s fans.
Despite all of that, the Portuguese media would still prefer to have another manager in the Premier League, whether that be with Sheffield Wednesday or someone else. For a while there have been suggestions in Portugal of interest from the Premier League, allowing Carvalhal a route there if he can’t succeed in the play-offs.
Portuguese newspaper Record reiterate that Carvalhal’s Sheffield Wednesday contract expires this summer, a source of disagreement for a while. It’s explained that the manager is still considering his future, and ‘has not yet decided whether to continue’ with the Championship club.
Carvalhal has already been approached to continue at Sheffield Wednesday, and extend his contract with the club.
The manager wants to see what happens over the next few weeks before committing himself to a further season.
