Trabzonspor president Ahmet Agaoglu has spoken to Demiroren News Agency (DHA), as covered by Taka Gazet,e about the latest developments at the club
Agaoglu was asked about Caleb Ekuban as the Leeds United loanee continues to impress for both club and country: “Let’s start with Ekuban. Our option to make his stay permanent expires on the 31st of May. We are still in March.
“So we are relaxed about the situation, we have time. Right now, we have more important issues to deal with, but when the right time comes, we will act.”
Agaoglu also explained the club are very pleased with Ekuban and said if Leeds United are regretting their decision to send him to Turkey, then it’s their fault: “It’s Trabzonspor who gave Ekuban a chance and his performances earned a call up to his national team. He also scored a goal in his first national team game, which is great. Leeds United may be regretting their decision, that’s normal, but it’s their fault.
“We got a player that was left out in his previous team and he is impressing for us. Nobody can change to the past. I also have some regrets about the past but we can’t do anything about it.”
Last summer Ekuban signed for Trabzonspor on loan for the season after failing to make an impact during his debut season for Leeds United. The 24 year old had joined the Elland Road club from Italian side Chievo Verona.
A right of redemption was agreed between the two clubs and the Trabzon side can make his move permanent in the summer.
There have been recent signs the Turkish side will activate this at the end of the season following comments from board members and Ekuban himself.
The forward is contracted to Leeds United until June 2021.
