It is with a bit of disappointment the Portuguese press reports the return of Simeon Slavchev to Sporting CP today.
Portugal’s sport newspapers, of which there are several, were sounding excited at the possibility of the player’s transfer to Birmingham City, where’s he’s been on trial.
It was revealed the player could join Birmingham on a loan deal, but it didn’t happen, and when the trial period was extended, Slavchev’s move looked even likelier.
As reported by A Bola, Record and O Jogo, the midfielder has failed to impress manager Harry Redknapp and won’t take part in Birmingham’s last preseason friendly.
With Slavchev returning to Portugal, Sporting will have to find another solution for his future, since he’s not in Jorge Jesus’ plans for the season.
Since signing for the club in 2014, the 23-year-old has already had loan spells at Bolton Wanderers, Apollon Limassol and Lechia Gdansk.
With a contract running until 2019, all Sporting want is to find a solution, whether that’s a temporary or permanent move.
